In most places, the change of seasons is fairly obvious.

The weather gets colder or hotter, it starts to snow or rain or something that definitely lets know you that it is a different season.  In San Francisco, we don’t get that kind of change.  Usually, the weather here does not get much below 55 degrees or much above 75 degrees. As a result, on our San Francisco Food Tour of North Beach\Little Italy and Chinatown, the way that we can tell is by the “seasonal” foods coming in the markets.  That has always been a major part of the fun of enjoying seasonal foods.  We know that we don’t have them year round, so it ends being real treats.

On our San Francisco Food Tours, we have a great time seeing how people use all of those seasonal foods.  For example, right now asparagus is in season. Asparagus is on those vegetables that tastes so good on it’s own that you don’t need too much to it.  Just grill or roast it, add a little Parmesan and it’s perfect.  Just like another that just came into season, Artichokes, Just steam them in some water and it’s perfect.  You can tell when it’s done, when a knife goes easily into the stem.

We’ll be having a great time enjoying those seasonal foods. And since they are only here for a short time, it will be a great treat.
