For many people, the ultimate sign of luxury is a great steak. In San Francisco, the ultimate sign of luxury is fresh Dungeness Crab. It seems that for many people, the type of luxury is based on what is luxurious according to where one lives. One that does seem be valid this time of year is that regardless of the neighborhood that one is in, Dungeness Crab is still ultimate luxury.
On our San Francisco Food Tours, it’s interesting that what food is prized, every neighborhood generally does not do much to that food. Take, for example, Dungeness Crab, most people like to eat it as it is. If they like it hot, they might steam it, but’s that about it.
Other times of the year, the food that is considered to be luxurious has a lot to what is in season, the reality that the food is not available year-round seems to be make it more special, as we can only have it at certain times of year. Perhaps that has a lot do with something being luxurious, only be able to get certain of year. Perhaps, another word for luxurious is seasonal. The idea is that we can only enjoy at certain times of year. And maybe, that is ultimate luxury, only being able to enjoy for short period, in other words seasonal.
