On our San Francisco Food Tour of North Beach\Little Italy and Chinatown, it’s going to be the start of a really fun weekend.  From festivals to great food to great weather, it going to be a lot of fun.   Part of that fun will be from the food.  This time of year, we’re starting to see a lot of fall vegetables in the market and that leads to some really great dishes. Figs are coming in right now and soon we’ll see pomegranates.

On our San Francisco Food Tours, we’ll start to see some great combinations of all of those foods.  For example, I really like to make a sauce from a combination of figs and pomegranates.  I like to reduce the pomegranate juice to a lot a molasses state.  All I do is slowly reduce it down in a saucepan until it gets really thick.  You need to watch it very closely at this point, it does not take much to go from a molasses consistency to brunt.   After it is where I want it to be, I like to let it cool a little bit.  Next, I like to cut the figs in half and warm them slightly in the oven and the port the pomegranate molasses right on top.  It’s great just buy itself or over something like duck or even ice cream,  Either way, it’s really delicious.
