With fall and all of the related festivals going on, it’s a great time to celebrate on our San Francisco Food Tour of North Beach\Little Italy and Chinatown. In Northern California, the weather doesn’t change enough to be able to tell that it is Fall. Mostly, we start seeing fall foods come into the market. On our San Francisco Food Tours, we’ll start to see squash and artichokes. Fall artichokes look a little different than spring artichokes. They look more brownish than spring artichokes. They tend to not get shipped because they don’t look as nice as most people are used to. The interesting thing for me is that the flavor of fall artichokes are much better. They are a much more intense flavor. Regardless of which type of artichokes that they are, I like to just steam them and then eat them without covering up the flavor.
That is the way that we like to cook around here. We go for really fresh foods and then do not do much to them. The result is some very tasty food.
