This weekend, we had a great time celebrating the Moon Festival on our San Francisco Food Tour of Chinatown. One of our stops, Eastern Bakery, makes moon cakes that are some of the best in the city. Moon cakes help celebrate the Moon Festival, held every year to celebrate the coming of the Autumn Moon. On our San Francisco Food Tours, it’s always a lot of fun for us to join in the celebration.

There’s always a street festival where a lot of large number of vendors set up booths along Grant Avenue with special thongs top celebrate the festival. From musicians to dancers to local artisans, it is really fun gathering of the local community. Walking down Grant Avenue, we feel like we get to see the best of the City. From special foods, arts and crafts booths other entrainment, there’s usually over 200 local booths.

The festival started off with a parade down Grant Avenue., with lots of lion dancers, marching bands, martials artists, and acrobats. It’s a great way to start off the festival. There’s even a small parade to celebrate the end of the festival.

Even though it’s only been around since about 1989 to bring people back to the community after the 1989 earthquake, it has evolved into a great time for everyone. And, it holds us over until the next festival. It makes the city a great place to visit and live.
