MAR

Green beans came just into the market.  On our San Francisco Food Tour of North Beach\Little Italy and Chinatown, each neighborhood looks for the best way to use them  North Beach likes to blanch them and put them into salads and Chinatown likes to make great soups using them.  Either way, the result ends up being delicious.  It’s like that with all of the foods as they come into the market.  Each neighborhood finds some great way to use them.  On our San Francisco Food Tours, it makes it so much fun to try everyone’s variation, whether it is an old recipe or new variation that someone just up with.

The great thing about our climate here is that we always have something year-round that we can enjoy.  The great thing about this area is that the warmer the inside of the state gets, the colder that we get.  It just pulls the fog or marine layer right off the ocean.  Then result is that right along the coast is the perfect climate for growing artichokes, for example, most of the artichokes grown in the country are grown about half hour south in Half Moon Bay and Castroville.

If you go thirty miles to the east , it can easily be thirty degrees hotter.   So, about everything we eat here has been grown in about an hour from the city.  Fruit is local, vegetables are local, wine is local, olive oil is local.  Added to that  is we have a year-round growing season.  The result is we always have something in season.
