Kitchen Equipment

MAR
212016

While I’m cooking at home from our San Francisco Food Tour of North Beach\Little Italy and Chinatown,  I tend to use a number of foods that are better when they are peeled.  I tend to like a Y peeler.  It’s a peeler with the blade at the top in the shape of Y, as opposed to a peeler with the blade on the side.  It just seems to peel everything from carrots to squash very quickly.

Having the right tools when I’m cooking can make a big difference when I’m cooking.  For many people, a big question is how to find the right one. Many times, as friend who has used something is a great source. Some shows on public television try to give some good reviews of equipment.  It’s usually a better idea for to spend a little more for a piece of kitchen equipment that will last and be easy to use than to purchase something that is cheap and promising to do things that seem, at best, unlikely.  A good start to are things that you find yourself using every day, such as a peeler or a good set of knives.  From there, you can add on additional kitchen equipment as you need them.  Most of the stops on our San Francisco are like me, they will spend a little more for a good piece of equipment that will last for a long time.  It usually ends being worth it in the long run, as well as making as making cooking easier to do.
